One of the questions that I get asked the most is where should I take my students when should I have my guitar student start a band?

I think that it’s funny because I really have no idea. When you have a new student that is just starting off, they are having a hard time just picking the strings let a lone starting a band on the other hand it’s fun to get together and start banging out a bunch of noise so you can get a feel of what it feels like to play in a band, I mean who said air guitar wasn’t fun?

The biggest thing to remember is that we all have to move from one stage to the next eventually. When you start taking lessons you will find out so fast that you need to learn chords, a few songs and a little bit of rhythm guitar, you can start making you playing work enough to play with others. I realize that most teens that take guitar lessons think of how easy it is to start a band, and join in on the fun, but let’s not forget that knowing the basic fundamental will make it easier up front to start off on the right foot.

Here is the checklist of the two things that you want to do when you take lessons.

1. Make sure that you decide the end goal, you want to be in a rock band or do you want to play in a punk band? Do you want to play originals or cover songs?

2. Make sure that you have an instructor to take you through all the steps in learning the basic cowboy chords, basic rhythm and song forms so you can get through the song and make your band mates happy.
