Hello,

I wanted to let everyone know that we have a new voice teacher starting this week, we will be posting her bio and information on the site soon so keep posted.

If you are thinking or have a desire to take vocal lessons I would like to invite you in hearing what voice lessons can do for you:

Erase your vocal break, so you end up with one large block of useable range.

Make serious gains on your vocal range, up to an octave

Use our exercises and immediately gain significant vocal control

Learn vocal style as well as technique

After using these exercises you will have a lot of control of what your vocal future holds. I want to make a guarantee to you that you will have success with the simple exercises that we give you each day.

From my observation the vocal students that get ahead follow this advice:

1. They have a simple 7-10 minute warm up – our students have vocal CDs that they use each practice sessions to warm up their voices.

2. They follow a simple eating routine to keep their bodies in singing shape.

3. They find 5 of their favorite songs that they want to sing at a time and either buy the sheet music or download the lyrics so they always have something to work on.

4. They learn how to sing scales, and have a basic understanding of music theory.

5. They record their own voice once a month to see how far they have progressed and then also have their teacher listen to make any changes they needs to become a better singer.

These are some of the things that have made a huge difference in the those who get a little better each month and those who have a huge jump in their progress each month.

If you have any comments or questions than please feel free to post them here.

If you are looking for Vocal Lessons in Denver area then please call 303-420-7952 or look at the vocal lesson page.

Here are a few things tips that will help when you write songs. These are some obvious tips, but hopefully you will get confirmation on questions you may have had.
The Super Simple Blow People’s Mind Approach

If you are on this page then you are probably looking for Denver Music Lessons. I am writing these post for aspiring musicians to get a taste of the instruction they will get at Denver School of Music. If you have any questions you can email us @ info@denverschoolofmusic.com

1. Get Inspiration When you write a song, get inspiration forcing a song out isn’t the most effective way in my opinion to get the song that moves people to sing it. I like to do two things. One, I like to write down dreams that I have and try and interpret my dreams into lyrics. I like using images for my song and not using feeling words.

2. Figure Out Emotion – When you look at what inspires you it usually make you feel an emotion. I spend a lot of time figuring out the emotion that I want to use in my music and I write chords on that have that feeling. ( If you don’t play guitar you can take Denver Music Lessons Here) I tend to write all my songs chords based off that emotion. Sometimes to change it up I will write the opposite chords to the lyrics. For example if the lyrics are really sad I will write happy chords to the song.

3. Don’t Judge Yourself – I try and sing from the heart. I don’t worry about how my voice sounds at all, I don’t really listen to it. I try to get the idea out and make sure that I have clarity on the song. A lot of songwriters have issues with making everything perfect and they won’t move on till it’s right in their mind. Don’t do that. It’s keeping you from writing great tunes.

4. Write The Song First – Before you record, try to have the first verse done and the chorus. If you are new to songwriting, you will soon want to record your new song in Garagband or Logic Studio and then you will have a lot of things come out of nowhere. When the focus changes off the song to the production you will have potential problems with the song getting sidelined and then all you focus on is the production. What happens after a few hours will be a lot of critique from your mind that will most likely make you stop and put off finishing the song. I like to say finish the song first before recording it with a band or in a studio. Recording to a recorder is great though to get your ideas down so you don’t forget.

5. Keeping the momentum going. When you start recording you will want to do it more and more. It’s contagious and after awhile your friends will be pulling you off your guitar to get you out of the house. That’s a great place to be. Having binders of lyrics and hours of ideas recorded, but there is an evil flip side. If you don’t find time to write everyday it starts to become easier and easier to not do it and then it becomes harder and harder to get yourself to take action. My best advice, find out what works for you in the beginning and do it. I have it as a habit to write before I go to bed, and even though I miss some nights I know that I will stay on track because I have to pass my piano every night before I get to my bedroom.

I hope these helped you and if so please comment on the blog and ask me your questions about anything songwriting.

Rob

We are starting to make major changes in Denver School of Music’s Student Teaching Program. If you are unfamiliar with this program, it was started in 2004 where DSoM teachers would go into schools and teach students how to teach each other.
We now have a program, where our students to teach guitar lessons in Denver to under privileged kids.

We have found that many students have a huge jump in learning when they teach once a month for around four months. They learn valuable problem solving techniques as well as confidence from helping others less fortunate.

Our goal by 2011 is to have a fully operational student teaching program for guitar, drums, bass, piano and vocals.

Here’s how the program works: We have student teaching days on the first Sunday of each month. Students that have been taking lessons at the school and have finished level two of the technique book and the entire beginner speed program.

If you or anyone in your family would benefit from teaching guitar one Sunday a month then please email us, you don’t have to be a student and it would help make another teen that’s less fortunates future.

Hello Rob fulton here, owner of Denver School of Music. We teach Guitar lessons all over Colorado and there have been some arguments on talent from my friends that own music schools in California.

After a mastermind call I have had with my group in LA, I have come to a few conclusions.

First, there are obviously more people in CA, which means they are more venues, playing opportunities and other musicians to play with.

Second, the focus on entertainment and the arts. In LA there are limitless possibilities and places to take guitar lessons than there are in Colorado. I have looked around and there are not many music schools in colorado and the ones that are here are under marketed and not a lot of word of mouth.

What I think about the future is that a lot will change. Guitar lessons are not the same 5 years ago as they are now, or as they will be in 5 years. My commitment is to get a lot more guitar players playing more shows, and writing and singing more songs. Colorado needs more singer songwriters that play guitar and sing. This in my observations will create more drummers, Bass players, keyboardist and more hit records.

Third, The ability to record a hit record in Colorado. My good friends in Boulder have a studio where they produce up and coming bands, they run a place called The Hook Factory. They have proven to produce some of the best sounding production to come out of colorado and my goal is to have bands our school creates and produce them and record them there. It’s now not unheard of to spend a year learning guitar and voice and then get in a band, play 4-5 shows write some songs and produce a CD.

Anyways, these are just some thoughts that I wanted to share,

To The Top

Rob Fulton

When you enter DSoM you feel like you have entered a new world. When you can come to a place that’s fun and entertaining you don’t want to leave.

It’s not the location either. It’s the synergy you get when you are playing in a band, recording your songs or taking a songwriting class.

We give every student the possibility to take their music to the top. Many of our past students have went on to record CDs as well as go on National Tours. You and your family have the same opportunities as they do.

If your reasons for having your teens take lessons at the school is having fun, winning their school talent show, developing quality relationships or just becoming well rounded then you have come to the right place.

Our goal is to have your son or daughter perform regularly (RockBand) and to Record their music (RecordingDay) monthly and to become a recognized musician at school and in your community.

Every year our students, win Jazz Band competitions, go to prestigious music schools and even go on tour. Stop and think what your son or daughter could do…

Call today and make an appointment @ Denver School of Music for an Intro lesson. This is valued at 25.00 and is FREE this month. Feel free to call 303-420-7952 or fill out this form and Lelia or another student advisor will call you to setup an no-risk student assessment.
